Community Initiative Connects Young People to the Kauffman Center, Encourages School Participation in Arts Programming
The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, a new center for music, opera, theater, and dance, opening in downtown Kansas City, Missouri in September 2011 announces the launch of the Open Doors program, a community initiative that will connect kids from throughout the metropolitan area to educational programs and performances at the Kauffman Center.
The Open Doors program is designed to give opportunities for young people, especially those with limited experience of the arts, to attend performances at the Kauffman Center, as well as perform on the stages of the Center’s two performance spaces, the Muriel Kauffman Theatre and Helzberg Hall.

Company contributed $30,000 for local second-graders to participate in the Children’s Wall at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts
On March 7th, 2011 Kansas City-based U.S. Engineering Company joined with the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts to welcome 30 second-grade students from University Academy to make their mark permanently on the Children’s Wall at the Kauffman Center.
Diana Krall, one of the world’s most popular jazz recording and concert artists, will perform the Grand Opening performance to inaugurate Helzberg Hall, the Kauffman Center’s concert venue, on the evening of Saturday, September 17, 2011. Ms. Krall joins previously announced classical music legend Itzhak Perlman as a headliner for the event.
Harriman-Jewell Series Announces 2011–2012 Season of Performances Presented in Downtown Kansas City’s Kauffman Center and Folly Theater
The Harriman-Jewell Series, Kansas City’s venerable performing arts presenter, has unveiled its 47th season. Of its 18 events, nine will be held at Kansas City’s new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts (1601 Broadway St.). The Series has the distinction of holding performances in both of the Center’s new halls: seven events in the Helzberg Hall and two events in the Muriel Kauffman Theatre. In addition to the nine events in the City’s newest performance halls, the Harriman-Jewell Series will also present nine events in the City’s oldest concert hall, the beautifully restored Folly Theater (300 W. 12th St.).
