Kauffman Center Announces New Open Doors Community Tickets Discount

Kansas City, MO – The Kauffman Center continues to provide opportunities for members of the Kansas City community to experience the performing arts by offering a new community discount available to military members, veterans and educators. These discounted tickets are made possible through the Open Doors Community Tickets program.

Military service members and educators will now be able to utilize a 15% ticket discount for Kauffman Center Presents performances. This is one of the Kauffman Center’s many initiatives to make performances affordable for a wide-range of diverse Kansas City populations.

Discounted tickets are available for purchase at the Kauffman Center box office with a valid military or school ID. Community Tickets discounts cannot be used for parking and Dining Experience reservations.

The Kauffman Center offers discounted tickets to students and community organizations as well. Student Rush Tickets and Senior Group Discounts are also available through the Open Doors Community Tickets program.

ABOUT THE OPEN DOORS PROGRAM

The Kauffman Center Open Doors program connects young people to the arts through three major components:

  • The Open Doors Spotlight on Youth initiative contains several programs that inspire and nurture the next generation of artists, arts patrons, and arts professionals with access to the Kauffman Center’s staff, stages, and resources.
  • The Open Doors Community Tickets program offers access to programming at the Kauffman Center for youth and families through reduced prices or free tickets.
  • The Open Doors Transportation Fund offers funding to schools in the metropolitan area so that bringing students to the Kauffman Center for school matinee performances is more affordable.

Peter Cetera Joins the 2017-2018 Kauffman Center Presents Series Lineup

Peter Cetera will perform at the Kauffman Center on Sunday, February 18, 2018.

Kansas City, MO – Peter Cetera will perform at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, Feb. 18 as part of the 2017-2018 Kauffman Center Presents series.

Known for his time as lead singer of the rock band Chicago and for his successful solo career, Cetera is a GRAMMY Award-winning singer-songwriter. He will perform with a seven-piece electric band at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18 in Muriel Kauffman Theatre. Tickets for the event range from $39 to $109 plus applicable fees, and go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15.

ABOUT PETER CETERA

GRAMMY Award-winning singer-songwriter Peter Cetera has had two distinct musical careers. From 1968 to 1986, Cetera was the singer, songwriter and bass player for the legendary rock group Chicago. In Cetera’s time with the group, Chicago recorded 18 of the most memorable albums of a generation, including such hits as “If You Leave Me Now,” “Hard to Say I’m Sorry,” “Baby What a Big Surprise,” and “You’re the Inspiration.”

Muriel Kauffman Theatre on June 14

The legendary Glenn Miller Orchestra from New York will perform one night only in Kansas City as they tour the world, bringing timeless classics such as “In the Mood,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” “String of Pearls,” and “Tuxedo Junction” to the stage. Even seventy-five years after the founding of this famous orchestra, Glenn Miller’s music is alive and well.

On Thursday, June 14 musicians and singers will bring the unforgettable Glenn Miller sound to Muriel Kauffman Theatre at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, performing timeless songs that everyone remembers. This is a show not to miss for jazz and swing fans alike and for the incurable romantics who want to step back in time. The legendary Glenn Miller was the most successful of all the dance bandleaders during the Swing Era of the 1930s and ’40s.

Producer Didier Morissonneau is proud to bring the most famous orchestra of all time to the Kansas City music scene to perform their classic two-hour greatest hits show, directed by the dynamic Nick Hilsher.

The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is excited to announce the tradition of celebrating Kansas City youth and the arts will continue with the fifth annual Future Stages Festival on Sunday, June 10, 2018.

This fun and free community event showcases Kansas City’s diversity while featuring youth performers from a wide range of performing arts styles.

As an extension of the Kauffman Center’s Open Doors Spotlight on Youth program, the festival gives youth and community arts organizations the opportunity to perform and celebrate the arts at the Kauffman Center.

After four successful Future Stages Festivals, more than 2,500 youth from community arts groups have performed on the Center’s stages. The fifth anniversary Future Stages Festival aims to highlight more diverse performance groups and provide more interactive opportunities for festival guests.

This year’s festival lineup will have performances in Helzberg Hall, Muriel Kauffman Theatre, and on the Saint Luke’s Outdoor Stage. To celebrate the fifth Future Stages Festival, there will be a new stage featuring small acts with up to 10 performers per group.

CALL FOR APPLICATONS FOR YOUTH PERFORMERS

Applications are now open for young performers and local arts groups to be a part of the fifth annual Future Stages Festival. Community arts organizations and school programs are encouraged to apply. Performance groups should primarily consist of youth performers between the ages of 5 – 18. Strong consideration for the festival mainstages will be given to larger groups (25+). Small acts with fewer than 10 performers are encouraged to apply to perform on a new fourth stage.

IMPORTANT FESTIVAL INFORMATION

– Future Stages Festival is FREE and open to the public and attendees are encouraged to register for more information at kauffmancenter.org/futurestages or by phone at 816-994-7222 to receive the latest updates and schedule for performances and activities.

– Registration is optional. No tickets will be issued. Once registered, attendees will automatically qualify for a drawing to win two tickets to an upcoming performance at the Kauffman Center.

– All ages are welcome and programming is suggested as most suitable for families with youth ages 4-15.

Future Stages Festival is presented by Premier Partner Saint Luke’s Health System, funding is provided by the Missouri Arts Council and festival support is provided by Southwest Airlines.

Kauffman Center’s Student Rush Discount

Kauffman Center’s Student Rush Discount Available for Upcoming Performances

Kansas City, MO – The Kauffman Center continues to provide opportunities for students to experience the performing arts by offering a student rush discount. These discounted tickets are made possible through the Center’s Open Doors Community Tickets program.

High school and college students are able to purchase discounted tickets for $15 at the Kauffman Center Box Office 90 minutes prior to any Kauffman Center Presents performance. In addition, students can also purchase reduced price tickets for performances presented by the Center’s resident arts organizations, including the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Ballet and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. This is one of the Kauffman Center’s many initiatives to make the performing arts more accessible to students and young people in the community

Discounted tickets are available for purchase at the Kauffman Center Box Office with a high school or college student ID. Seating is based on availability, and there is a limit of one discounted ticket per valid student ID. Upcoming Kauffman Center Presents performances events include the Vienna Boys Choir on Saturday, November 11 and Riverdance on March 16 – 17.
