The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is passionate about providing youth in our community opportunities to experience high quality performing arts, learn about the facility, and even plan for a future in the arts.

All Kauffman Center Presents student matinee tickets are $2 each, and ticket applications are required. Applications will be available in late August.
This popular series has a new name, but you can count on the same high-caliber close encounters with adventurers and photojournalists you experienced at past National Geographic Live events. All Trailblazing Talks matinees are recommended for grades 6 – 12.
Michael Yamashita – Marco Polo: World’s Greatest Explorer

Join National Geographic photographer, Michael Yamashita as he follows in the footsteps of Marco Polo, the greatest Western explorer of all time. Relive his 13th Century odyssey along the Silk Road, from Italy through Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan, all the way to China, and his epic voyage back across the South China Sea with stops in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India.
Dereck & Beverly Joubert – Saving Wildlife on the Brink

Hailing from South Africa, world-class photographer Beverly Joubert and her partner in work and life, Filmmaker Dereck Joubert, have been documenting wild Africa for more than three decades, shining light on Africa’s big cats, elephants and rhinos. On stage, they show the interdependence of wildlife and wild places, and the many ways they have stepped in to make a difference.

Journey to the farthest reaches of our planet in this sweeping look at nature and man.
Kobie Boykins – Beyond Earth: The Quest for Life
Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 10:30 a.m.
Embark on a journey through more than two decades of space exploration with leading NASA Engineer Kobie Boykins. After working on all of the Mars Rover programs, Kobie has set his sights on his most ambitious mission to date–a circumnavigation of Europa, Jupiter’s icy moon. The goal? To find out if there is water under the icy crust. Where there’s water, there’s life.

School matinees are eligible for bus transportation assistance through our Open Doors program. Transportation assistance applications and more information can be found here.
Any school in the five-county metropolitan Kansas City area and outside the KC metro can submit an order form to purchase tickets for students and chaperones to attend any of the Kauffman Center Presents student matinees. Homeschool groups are also welcome to purchase tickets to these performances.
Orders will be processed as they are received and confirmation emails with order information will be sent to the teacher within 2-3 weeks. Teachers are then responsible for sending relevant details to administrators to begin payment process.
Each year, there will be over twenty school matinee performances, and they are listed under the Student Matinee page of our website. At this time, all student matinee performances qualify for the Open Doors Transportation Assistance program. Please be aware that only groups with more than 20 students who are traveling by bus are invited to apply. Also, transportation assistance applications must be submitted at least five business days prior to the scheduled performance.
If your approved group needs to cancel a student matinee reservation, please let the Kauffman Center know as early as possible by sending a notification to . Tickets must be paid for in full no later than one month prior to the performance date. Any school that cancels beyond that deadline will not receive a refund.
Yes, you can adjust your numbers as needed, but all changes are subject to ticket availability. All changes must be made by one month prior to the performance date when ticket payment is also due.

ALICE (IN WONDERLAND)
Septime Webre’s ALICE (in wonderland) is a modern reimagining of the beloved classic. This captivating production blends ballet and contemporary dance to bring Lewis Carroll’s iconic characters to life in a fresh, visually stunning way. With vibrant costumes, a whimsical score and exceptional choreography, it’s an immersive experience for all ages.
THE NUTCRACKER
A two-act ballet based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s story. Featuring vibrant costumes, elaborate scenery, and stunning sets, this classic tale tells the timeless story of Clara, the Mouse King and her Nutcracker Prince.
