Ambassadors showcase Kauffman Center at fall events

Date: September 28, 2007

Author: Kauffman Center

Ambassadors didn’t wait long after Labor Day to begin a busy fall season.  Seventeen new Ambassadors participated in our quarterly orientation session on Wednesday, September 5.  A group of volunteers staffed the model at First Fridays and then, on September 11, more than 30 Ambassadors gathered for an open house at the site of the acoustical model.

And those were just the beginning of activities underway as the Ambassadors started work on a busy fall calendar.

Crowds flock to see our architectural model at First Fridays

On Friday, September 6, Ambassadors greeted the largest crowd ever at the Arts Incubator.  More than 1,200 people came by our third-floor perch to ‘tour’ the architectural model, to visit about progress and to sign up for more information.  (And this is not just a guess—we count these things.)  We’ll be there again on October 5, because First Fridays provide a great way for Ambassadors to build excitement about the new center and to get interested people on our mailing list for future contacts.

Over the summer, the one-tenth scale model built for acoustical testing moved to a nice new home at 1640 Baltimore.  Housed now in the lobby of the JE Dunn Construction offices for this project, we now have air conditioning (and later, heat).

Ambassadors continue to spread the word

Ambassadors were invited to the offices for an open house from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. on September 11.  Two new resources are available to help Ambassadors spread the word about the Center and they were shared during the event. A new five-minute video, developed by Elaine Hamilton of Vision Teleproduction, Inc., was shown.  Plus, new brochures have been developed to hand out to audiences.  Since Ambassadors work hard to tell our story they were glad to get these new pieces of information.

In the meantime, staff members Lisa Hickok and Cheryl Spear were creating a way to attract new audiences to our booth at the Plaza Art Fair.  Twenty-five volunteers joined them over the September 21-23 weekend to greet visitors to our “Coming Attraction” booth that was part of the Community Arts Experience section of the fair.  “We were struck by the increase in name recognition the Kauffman Center had since last year’s fair,” said Spear, “and the universally positive response we got from fair-goers who stopped by.”  Art Fair patrons were struck by the Kauffman Center booth—with its eye-catching lights and red velvet curtains.

Upcoming Ambassador activities:  Look for Ambassadors at the Arts Incubator on First Friday, October 5.  Ambassadors will be available—with the architectural model—at performances of the Kansas City Ballet in October.
